I left through the ceiling. Not metaphorically — I passed through the plaster and the insulation and the roof tiles and I was above my house, looking down at the street. It was 3am. A cat was sitting on the neighbor's car. I checked in the morning. The cat was real.
Out-of-body experiences
What if leaving your body means arriving somewhere else?
Out-of-body experiences are not departures from reality. They are a different kind of merge — one where your awareness separates from the physical anchor entirely and navigates the space between realities with unusual clarity and control.
The OBE as a conscious merge
In ordinary dreaming, the merge is passive. Your frequency drifts, your awareness is pulled, and you inhabit your closest alternate self without choosing to. In an OBE, something different happens. The separation from the physical body creates a window — a moment of pure frequency, unanchored — in which the traveler can sometimes navigate deliberately. The alternate realities you visit during an OBE may not be the closest match to your current frequency. They may be realities you are drawn to by intention, memory, or longing. This is why OBEs often feel more vivid, more real, and more purposeful than ordinary dreams. You are not drifting. You are traveling.
Ordinary dream
Passive merge. Awareness is pulled to the closest resonant alternate self. You experience their life from the inside, often without knowing it is happening.
Lucid dream
Aware merge. You recognize the merge is occurring. You can sometimes influence the experience, but you are still inhabiting a specific alternate self's reality.
Out-of-body experience
Unanchored navigation. Your awareness separates from the physical body entirely. You move through the space between realities — sometimes visiting a specific alternate self, sometimes traversing the lattice itself.
What travelers report
The vibration stage
A buzzing or electrical sensation that precedes separation. This is the frequency becoming fluid — the moment before the anchor releases.
The silver cord
Many travelers report a luminous thread connecting their traveling awareness to their physical body. This may be the same resonant thread that connects all alternate selves — made visible when you are between states.
Hyper-real environments
OBE environments are often described as more real than waking life — colors more saturated, textures more precise, sound more layered. This may reflect the clarity of an unanchored frequency encountering a reality directly, without the filtering of a physical nervous system.
Encountering other travelers
Some report meeting other beings or presences during OBEs — entities that seem aware, purposeful, and not part of any alternate self's ordinary life. These may be other travelers, navigating the same space between realities.
The return
Re-entry is often sudden and physical — a snap, a jolt, a sense of falling back into the body. The anchor reasserts itself. The frequency re-locks. You are, once again, only yourself.
From the OBE log
Accounts submitted by travelers. Unedited, uninterpreted.
I traveled to a library that doesn't exist. Every book was a life — not a story about a life, but the actual record of it, moment by moment. I pulled one from the shelf and it was warm. I think it was mine.
I found myself in a version of my childhood home where I had never left. My alternate self was still there, middle-aged, living the life I had abandoned. She couldn't see me. I watched her make tea. I stayed for what felt like an hour. When I came back I cried for reasons I still can't fully explain.
Have you traveled?
